Clickity, click, click, click those orange up arrows. Just a heads up, there is a %15 off sale going on RIGHT NOW. If you can't buy anything (which I totes understand), would you mind taking a second to share or upvote? Believe it or not, it really helps me out. Please and Thank You! Help me get the word out there so the peeps can see my work! Just open THIS LINK and click a few things, upvote a few things. You don't have to upvote everything :) THANK YOU FOR READING!This is the first time I've ever done anything like this on my blog, but I thought it might be an interested thing to add... Every now and again I come across a shop or a product that I just love so much I have to tell people about it! Normally, that constitutes a Facebook post, but I thought I'd be a little more intimate with this one. I originally found this artist on Reddit. Someone had posted a picture of her Zombie mug and I just loved the style. In the comments on Reddit, there were many words of encouragement to open an Etsy shop and sell her work. Eventually, she did just that! Her shop is a little bare (ok, a lot bare) but she is an art student and I know how stressful that can be, so "bare" with her. Excuse my pun... #sorrynotsorry "I think the greatest achievement a person can make is creating something out of nothing." Her name is Stephanie Nester, Steph for short and her shops on Etsy are called Mean Mugger and ECLECTICHAVEN. I just love her work. It's hard to really comment on the body of work, because it's so small at this point, but the individual pieces are quite nice. Her mug is very colorful and whimsical. It exudes a fun feeling. Her photography also has a colorful and whimsical nature, but there is definitely a more serious side that has drawn my attention. I especially love the use of color in the first photo. The sign "TRASH" juxtaposed with the bright colors, not usually something one would associate with a faded old fence, is an interesting contrast on what I would consider opposing notions. It is really quite nice My favorite thing of hers, however, is the whimsy of this mug. Isn't if fabulous? If you get a chance to take a closer look at her work, I think you'll really like it. I'm not sure if she plans to keep her Etsy shop going... it is extremely hard to devote any meaningful amount of time to other endeavors when you're an art student #beentheredonethat But, if you enjoyed it, leave a comment or send her a convo on Etsy and let her know how fabulous her work is. I'll be sure to pass on the message!
You're a champion, Ru...Greatest of them all! I just love making ModBlocks of my favorite girls. You can acquire this little lady here. This is one of the blocks that came out of my little idea contest. Make sure you "Like" me on Facebook to get notifications on future contests! New blocks every Friday?I want to try and bring this back again... prepare yourself for whining and complaining... it's really hard to come up with new block ideas every week. The contest was a lot of fun though and really helped spark some inspiration. I don't always want to do celebrities in the Andy Warhol style, but I'm really enjoying it so far, so I'm going to keep at it until it gets boring.
I am working on getting some of my original paintings on ModBlocks... I may already have one finished. Here's a little sample... And the winner is...Guys... guys... This was really hard to decide how to choose the winner because I had a few different message boards that people posted "entries" on (comments). And, some people posted two or more comments, which wasn't against the rules (because I never made any specific rules), so to be far... I chose two winners at random!!So, the method I used... I assigned numbers to Facebook, Etsy Forum and Blog Comments and chose one at random from using a random number generator (Random.org). Then, I tallied up all the comments and chose another number. Starting from the top, I counted down and chose the winners... Congratulations to... Louis Keyser with the Margaret Cho ModBlock (I love her!) from the Facebook Comments -and- Susan Newton with Elvis, Brad Pitt, or Michael Jackson from the Etsy Forum I will be notifying winners ASAP and will post the finished blocks later this week. These are just example blocks, I will actually be collaborating with the winners to make a more customized block with more original art.
comment and win a modblockIt's simple! I wanna know what you want and I need your ideas! So, in exchange for your comments and suggestions for new blocks, I'm giving one lucky winner the ModBlock they suggest for FREE! How do I enter?Just go to my Facebook Page by clicking here. Then Like, Comment and Share! I will compile all the entries and on March 17th I will randomly choose a winner and announce it here and on my Facebook page. Don't forget to like, comment and share!I know it's a bugger sometimes, but I could really use your help getting the word out! If you could just take a moment from your day and share this with your friends, it would mean the whole world to me! If you think my art and ideas are clever and entertaining, why not share that with your friends?
Do it now! Well, it took a while... but she's finally done! Here she is. Get ready for some alliteration... Here is My Marilyn Monroe ModBlock Mosaic by Marcus Bellon! She's (obviously) made from a compilation of 9 wood blocks. All handmade by me. I cut and sanded the wood, drilled the hanging holes in the back, primed and painted the wood, printed and prepared the image transfers, painted the sides a dark grey and gave each block a border and finally finished everything off with a protective clear coating to keep it shiny and safe! That's almost poetry! (I swear I didn't do it on purpose!) So, how do you like it? Leave a comment!I'm always looking for constructive criticism and feedback in general! Don't be shy. Also, who do you think my next mosaic should be of? Suggestions are welcome!
PS: This mosaic will soon be available for purchase on my Etsy store. Check back later if you're interested! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I sill cannot believe that this happened. The LEGENDARY Betty White is looking at my ModBlock. It's just an arms length away from her! I don't know that she loved it... probably sick of looking at those hotdog pictures. But still... PRETTY FREAKING AMAZING! Betty White is my all time favorite Golden Girl. She brings so much laughter and joy into this world... she is a miracle. I love her so much! This whole experience has been pretty awesome. The exposure was small and short lived (they didn't say my name or etsy store), which is fine with me! Just having something that I made in the prescience of Betty White is an experience I'll never forget. I've said it before, but I'm saying it again. THANK YOU to the fabulous people at CONAN for giving me this awesome experience I will not soon forget. Where can you get one, you ask? On my Etsy store, of course! As a huge thank you to all my present and future fans, I'm offering a 20% discount code.
Use Coupon Code: BETTYLOVE20 You can use this to get 20% off your Betty White Eats a Hotdog Modblock, but feel free to use it on ANYTHING in my store and SHARE it with your friends! I JUST LOVE BETTY WHITE! :) Something very interesting happened to me at the end of February... I was contacted by some nice people from the Conan O'Brien show... Betty White will be one of the guests this coming Tuesday and they want to present her with some of MY art! I about had a heart attack! I'm not exactly sure what they're doing with it. They didn't give me any specifics except that they were sure they'll love my work. Woot! I am beyond excited. I'm so nervous that she'll hate it or not like what I did with her picture... it's a bit silly. I have a feeling they'll poke a little fun... hopefully not at my expense. But, I guess it comes with the territory. Still, even if it's horrible, it will be awesome! Exposure is exposure.
I suppose there is also a chance that my ModBlock might not make it in the segment... in which case I'll be very sad. But, even the thought of it all is still pretty amazing. At the very least it has really motivated me to keep working and getting my stuff out there and seen. You never know when big and exciting opportunities will just fall in your lap.
So let that be a lesson to us all. Keep working and stay motivated! ... which is actually my dining room... It's not a lot, but I get a lot of work done hereLately, I've been working really hard to get a rhythm going with my work. Between Etsy, Reddit and the few galleries I show my work in, it's starting to become viable to support myself entirely on my artwork... which is AMAZING! It's everything I've ever wanted.
I'll still continue to look for a job, but in the meantime I will continue to keep my artsy little hands busy on my various projects. Go me! |
